Tourism Without Boundaries

Karlovac is renown for its openness and hospitability and for promoting "tourism without boundaries", based on a humanitarian approach and care for the less mobile and the non-mobile, physically handicapped people with different levels of disablement regarding their mobility.

In 2009, Chameleon - Non-governmental organization for the ethics and the creativeness of media, launched its project, "Everybody's Town - Karlovac Tourist Promenades easily accessible also to the physically disabled with various degrees of mobility disablement".

This pioneering project has enabled this group of people to experience and explore Karlovac. Now you too are able, accompanied and helped by tourist guides, to traverse/pass the town promenades which have been adjusted to suit the needs of people in wheelchairs, and which will take you past the major sights of the town.

Our wish is that Karlovac, in cooperation with the Town Management, the Town Tourist Centre and the Association of the People With Physical Disability in both the City and in the County of Karlovac, really and truly become "Everybody's Town", ready to accept and host the disabled as well.

The project is also aimed at inducing the removal of the remaining physical barriers that render free access to the promenades impossible for the physically disabled. Thus it will add a new dimension and enrich the promenades with easily accessible tourist attractions. At your disposal you will find the two promenade routes passing through the heart of the old town and through the loveliest town parks, the shorter passage (about 1,5 km long) through Zvijezda and along Dr. Franjo Tuđman Promenade, and the longer one (about 3 km long) that continues at the end of the former one, proceeding down The Vrbanić Gardens and along the left bank of the Korana River.
